Conversations for the curious with Grace Forrest.

Grace is a Founding Director of Walk Free, an international human rights organisation focused on the eradication of modern slavery in our lifetime.

Since its inception in 2011, Walk Free has become one of world’s leading anti-slavery organisations, responsible for publishing the Global Slavery Index (GSI).
The GSI is the world’s leading data set on measuring and understanding modern slavery, informing international law, legislation, and prevalence indicators. A crucial part of Walk Free’s work is highlighting the need for greater transparency in global supply chains to identify modern slavery.
Grace is the youngest ever United Nations Association Goodwill Ambassador for Anti-Slavery. She is on the board for the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue, a director of the Minderoo Foundation and a founding member for the Asia Gender Network.
In 2018, Grace was awarded Nomi Network’s Abolitionist award for her work to end modern slavery and currently sits on the Board of Directors for The Freedom Fund, a leader in the global movement to end modern slavery. Most recently Grace was awarded the 2021 Young West Australian of the Year.

Grace Forrest Blog

A moment of still amongst the haste.

DESCRIBE YOURSELF IN 5 WORDS;

Spicy, intuitive, observant, empathetic, kind

TEA OR COFFEE / BUBBLES OR WINE;

Both - earl grey & cold brew.

Natural bubbles!

ARE YOU A LEFT IN BED, A RIGHT OR A TOTAL BED HOG;

Right in the bed

CHOCOLATE OR CHEESE;

Cheese 🙏🏽

WHAT INSPIRES YOUR CREATIVITY;

The ocean, being in nature, my siblings, my friends

WHAT IS CURRENTLY ON YOUR BEDSIDE TABLE;

Water, Armaforce, my 5 minute journal, a diffuser, and framed sketch of snow berries

CAN YOU DESCRIBE AN INSPIRATIONAL WOMAN IN YOUR LIFE;

My mother. She is smart, strong, kind, resilient and hilarious. She is such a beautiful role model to me, both as a mother and as a professional. She is humble and collaborative and always the last to take credit for the work she often leads. She presented at the National Press Club earlier this year and did the most exceptional job holding our elected leaders to account and firmly letting them know how they're failing Australia's children. So many people commented on what a natural and incredible public speaker she was - which was true. I had tears (of pride) in my eyes the whole time because she actually hates public speaking and was so brave getting up and doing that. Proud to know her, honoured to be her daughter.

WHAT IS THE BEST ADVICE YOU HAVE RECEIVED;

Do not harm, but take no shit.

Context is everything.

The serenity prayer - God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference.

YOUR FAVOURITE ROOM IN YOUR HOUSE AND WHY;*

My kitchen! It's where everyone comes together - often where I read, work and cook. I love having big jars of herbs from the garden on the table.

WHAT DOES THE PERFECT SATURDAY NIGHT LOOK LIKE? IN OR OUT?

Depends on the weekend. Love a night out dancing but also a night in with my daughters (cats)

FAVOURITE MOVIE?
